i5 Vs. Phenom II

Posted by Land Shark in Jan 04, 2010, under Tech And Hardware

Notes

The Phenom II Black Edition 965 and Phenom II Black Edition 955 are the essentially same things. The 955 can preform on par to the 965. If you would like to read more on the differences between the 965 and 955, you will find more information about this at the end of the article.

Introduction

The Core i5 will surpass the Phenom II 965/55 Black Edition in almost any test by around 5%. That being said, there is still reason to compare these two processors. I will be going over the pros and cons first.

Phenom II 965/55 Pros/Cons

Pros

  • The Phenom II’s are cheaper than the i5 ($20-50)
  • Cheaper components (Motherboards RAM .etc)
  • Unlocked Core Multiplier-Great for overclocking
  • Most longevity compared to i5
  • Most compatibility

Cons

CES Preview. 1/Something

New Atom processors, new Netbooks
The star of the show will likely be Intel’s new line of Atom processors for Netbooks. Previously codenamed Pine Trail, these new CPUs will give the Netbooks platform a performance push, we hope, making these popular laptops even more ubiquitous. Currently, Netbooks are great for some tasks, but can be frustrating to use if you need them for all-around computing. Look for added graphics and HD video performance in particular.

On a related note, hardware manufacturers will continue to try to “upscale” Netbooks, by adding features such as discrete graphics, touch screens, and HD displays–all in an effort to move prices past the low-margin $299 mark. We’ll see increased stratification in Netbooks–a category previously notable for its commodity nature.

Thank you to CNET for the information.

iPhone 4G?

Posted by xianglong.ni in Jan 02, 2010, under News

Some details about the next generation iPhone from Apple have been leaked. The iPhone 4G’s features have been rumored to include:

-A Titanium & Glass Design

-an OLED Screen (Organic Light-Emitting Diode)

-3G Data Speed (Funny, they should just call it a “3G[S]2″)

-”True” GPS

-iChat Camera

-Removable Battery (OMG! NO MORE EXORBITANT FEES FOR BATTERY REPLACEMENT! Now they’ll just be slightly overpriced…)

-Standard Headphone Jack

-3.2 Megapixel Camera

-Video-Capable (of course)

-32 GB version available (not yet)

-Messaging Light

The first sign of the iPhone 4G was discovered when an application’s log revealed a device that identified itself as iPhone3,1. Because iPhone 3G is iPhone2,1, they thought that this “iPhone3,1″ was an iPhone 4G. However, someone (apparently Jay Freeman a.k.a. Saurik, the creator of Cydia) pointed out that the device identifier can be spoofed if the device is jailbroken. So this could just all be a hoax.

iTablet for $1000? Apple Meeting On 26th Confirmed

Posted by Land Shark in Dec 31, 2009, under News, Tech And Hardware

Apple iTablet

Apple is said to release details about their mythical tablet dubbed the “iTablet” be some on the 26th. Speculators claim that the iTablet will boast a 10.1″ touch screen and an “amazing user interface”. All this comes at a spoused $1000 price point, making it as expensive as a high end laptop, or even high end desktop. The meeting taking place on the 26th is about “mobility space”, meaning we’ll see something related to the iPhone/Touch product line. The upcoming event will reportedly be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts — the site of the company’s iPod-centric music events held every year in the fall. In 2010, I’m looking forward to the thing, however. It’ll be the gadget that finally gets me to sit on the couch and surf the Web. It’ll be the gadget that finally gets me to read e-books, thanks to its revolutionary e-ink/LCD/OLED/Smuckers Grape Jelly technology. I plan to be simply blown away by the device.

As you can see it’s alot like the palm pre interface!

This is how you get it!

  1. Add this source: http://booleanmagic.com/repo/ to your ipod via cydia. click here to discover how to add sources
  2. once the sources refresh, go and add it. To set how to place the shortcut to open it, click on the app!

Hope you enjoy using it!

How to SSH

Posted by xianglong.ni in Dec 30, 2009, under Guides, Ipod Themes

Here it is. The thing you have all been waiting for:

HOW TO SSH.

Ok. Recently, one of my friends looked at our site, and asked me on Facebook, “wat the heck is SSH?” so, SSH is pretty much using your computer to access the files on your iPod touch/iPhone’s hard drive. You can transfer files from your computer to your device and vice versa. So in effect, you can control the device’s system. Isn’t that cool? Apple’s attempt to prevent you from using the underlying system files has been foiled! SSH is incredibly important for many things, such as complex Winterboard themes.

Make sure you have openSSH installed on your device (via cydia), and it’s activated (only if you have SBsettings)

Your device must be connected to a WiFi network.

For all the guides, you will need to know your device’s IP address. To find it, you go to Settings > WiFi > click on the little blue arrow button to the right of the current network you are on > look for IP address. Copy that down.

Connect your device to your computer via USB.

Windows guide:

Download WinSCP from here.

Install it.

Run it. You will be greeted with a window like this:

In the Host Name area, input your device’s IP (despite the “YOUR IPHONES IP”, iPhone or iPod Touch is okay). User name: “root” (without quotes) password: “alpine” (without quotes). Click Login.

The first time you SSH, it will take a while. It will ask you if you want to abort. DO NOT ABORT. When it connects, you will see something like this (except the right pane will be the device instead of “public_html”):

Congratulations. You are in your device now. Explore around.

Macintosh guide:

Download Fugu from here.

Install it & run it.

You will be greeted with a screen like this:

In the Connect To box, type in your device’s IP. Username:”root” (without quotes), Leave Port and Directory unchanged (ignore the picture) It will request a password after you click Connect: “alpine” (without quotes).

After you connect (which may take a while), you will see something like this:

The right pane is your device. Feel free to explore around.

Linux guide:

Go here.

It’s a bit more complicated and involved, but hey, if you’re techy enough to be using Linux, you should be able to understand it.
